The Georgian Bay Brass Band
Our current organization began in 2010 as The Georgian Bay Brass, a British-style brass band. It was formed by Paul Rayment and a group of Midland residents looking for a band within a rapidly expanding culture of the community. Through our ten years as a brass band, we presented countless concerts and performed at numerous community events.
In 2020 our group came to the conclusion that many woodwind musicians in town were looking for a place to play. Despite our love for brass band music, we made the decision that it was time to become a concert band. We successfully made the transition and doubled our membership from 20 to 40 musicians under conductor Spencer Linington. Unfortunately, three weeks after our first rehearsal, our organization was put on pause by the global COVID-19 pandemic. After a lengthy hiatus of 553 days, we were happy to return to making music again as a concert band for the 2021-22 season. Starting the year with just eight musicians and ending it with over thirty, we were thrilled to be able to present an outdoor concert in June after taking a pandemic-related pause in the middle of the season. |
